The SUV body style has become the most popular in both Spain and the rest of Europe. Buying a vehicle with a high ride height has its advantages in terms of space and comfort. However, it has a key disadvantage, which is that we are going to have to pay more to get a car of this type.

What can we find that is affordable in the used car market? We’ve taken a look at the market and bring you a short list of models that can be bought second-hand below the psychological price of 10,000 euros:

Renault Koleos

Renault koleos SUV

The first-generation Koleos is not the most graceful SUV manufactured by the diamond brand, but it is a spacious, reliable, and cheap vehicle. If we analyze the market and stick solely to the 150 hp 2.0 dCi engines, we can see that there are units reaching even 350,000 kilometers.

Obviously, we don’t recommend buying a unit with that much mileage. It is relatively easy to find some Koleos with 150,000 kilometers for about 5,000 or 6,000 euros. There are even 4×4 versions in this range.

Skoda Yeti

The Yeti makes good use of space and features VAG Group mechanics

It doesn’t have the best design in the world either, but it’s another car well worth considering if you’re looking for a cheap SUV. The Yeti has been sold with all kinds of engines, both diesel and gasoline. If you need to rack up the kilometers, go straight for a 2.0 TDI. You can find them for around 7,500 euros.

Prefer to go for a gasoline unit? They are more expensive, but you have choices between 1.2 and 1.4 TSI. In any case, you will find them for less than 10,000 euros with plenty of useful life ahead.

Suzuki Vitara

Looking for an underrated car? This is one of them

There have been numerous generations of the Suzuki Vitara. The fourth-generation model is quite recent and fits our budget. The 1.6 gasoline versions from 2016 offer simple mechanics and a relatively affordable price, although they dangerously approach this 10,000-euro limit we established at the beginning.

Dacia Duster

Even in its 4×4 version, it fits our budget

It is one of the cars that has experienced the least depreciation in recent years. However, the second-generation model from 2017 fits our budget. You can find diesel versions with a 110 hp 1.5 dCi engine for this price, even in the 4×4 variant. Plus, you’ll get the C Environmental Label.

Mitsubishi ASX

Mitsubishi asx

Peugeot and Citroën also had their versions of the ASX with similar mechanics

This model, now sold as a badge-engineered Renault Captur, used to be a car with its own personality. It was a compact SUV, meaning larger than the current version, and was very well received in the market.

You can find the original ASX in diesel and gasoline versions. The 1.6 versions come from PSA (1.6 HDI) and have a worse reputation than the others. On the other hand, the gasoline versions are fuel-thirsty, but you have engines to choose from between 116 and 170 hp.

As we have seen, it is not impossible to find an SUV below 10,000 euros. In fact, in this case, we have stuck solely to these models because they offer a good balance between price and reliability.
