About Lotus Exige
The Lotus Exige is a sports car from the manufacturer Lotus Cars. It is a more radical version of the Lotus Elise, with which it shares a platform. The Exige has been produced from the year 2000 until 2021, spanning a total of three generations.
The first generation of the Lotus Exige was launched in the year 2000. It was equipped with a 1.8-liter Rover K Series engine with 177 hp of power. The car had a weight of 780 kg and reached a top speed of 219 km/h. This model was based on the Lotus Elise Series 1 platform, but with a series of modifications to improve its performance. It featured a more aerodynamic body, a stiffer suspension, and a more powerful braking system. It was a sales success and received praise for its handling, performance, and lightness.
The second generation of the Lotus Exige arrived in the year 2004. It was equipped with a 1.8-liter Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine with 190 hp of power. It weighed 890 kg and reached 240 km/h.
The third generation was launched in 2012. It used a 3.5-liter Toyota 2GR-FE engine with 350 hp of power. It was heavier (1,100 kg), although it improved its top speed, reaching 274 km/h. This Series 3 was stiffer, with better brakes and a sportier suspension.
The Lotus Exige has been used in several motorsport competitions, such as the British GT Championship and the World Endurance Championship. Among its alternatives are the Porsche 718 Cayman, the Audi TT RS, and the BMW M2.
