About MG ZT
The MG ZT is an executive car (segment E) from the British manufacturer MG Rover. It was produced in a single generation between 2001 and 2005. Its predecessors were the Rover 800 Vitesse and the Rover 620ti. It is also known as the MG 7 or Roewe 750. It was the sporty version of the Rover 75.
The MG ZT was introduced in 2001, three years after the launch of the Rover 75 upon which it is based. It was offered in sedan and estate versions, the latter named the MG ZT-T. The basic design is similar to that of the Rover 75, but with some changes such as an integrated front bumper grille, sportier wheels and tires, and interior tweaks.
Mechanically, the suspension and brakes were improved compared to the Rover 75. The petrol engines came from Rover itself and Ford, while the diesel was from BMW. Of note is the MG ZT 260 version featuring a powerful 4.6-liter Ford V8 engine producing 260 hp.
In 2003, the MG ZT-T became the world's fastest production estate car, with a top speed of 360 km/h. Following the bankruptcy of MG Rover in 2005, the rights were acquired by China's Nanjing Automobile, which re-launched the model in 2007 as the MG 7.
The main rivals of the MG ZT were premium sports saloons such as the Alfa Romeo 166, Audi A6, and BMW 5 Series.
