About SEAT MÁLAGA
The SEAT Málaga is a C-segment passenger car manufactured by the Spanish carmaker SEAT in Barcelona. It was produced between 1984 and 1991. It had only one generation on the market, and its predecessor was the SEAT 131. In Greece, it was marketed under the name SEAT Gredos.
The SEAT Málaga was released during a transition period for SEAT, as its relationship with Fiat was coming to an end and before it was acquired by the Volkswagen Group. It used the Fiat Ritmo platform through an agreement between both companies. Initially, it was available with 1.2 L gasoline engines with 63 hp and 1.5 L engines with 85 hp. It also had a 1.5 injection version with 100 hp, which was the result of a collaboration with Porsche Engineering, much like the Ibiza. In 1987, the Málaga received a minor redesign on the front grille, although it would never have a second generation.
In 1986, the SEAT Málaga was named Car of the Year in Spain. The model had many special versions, such as the Málaga Injection, Málaga Touring, Málaga Brisa, Málaga XL, Málaga Bahía, and Málaga Podadera.
At the time, its main competitors were the Renault 9, Volkswagen Jetta, Ford Escort, Opel Kadett, Peugeot 305, and Fiat Regata.
