About VOLVO S40
The Volvo S40 is a luxury passenger car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the Swedish marque Volvo. It replaced the Volvo 440 from 1996. It was discontinued in 2012.
Volvo launched the S40 and V40 series in 1995, with the S40 being a sedan model and the V40 a family car model. These first-generation models were based on a common platform with the Mitsubishi Charisma. In 2000, Volvo updated the 40 Series with technical improvements, such as improved engine management, direct diesel fuel injection and additional safety features. The Volvo S40 was the first car to earn a four-star Euro-NCAP safety rating. During this generation, it was considered a D-segment vehicle, although from subsequent generations onwards, it is classified within the compact class.
The second generation started its production in 2004. It was built on Volvo’s P1 platform, also known as the Ford Global C-car Platform. That is why it shares elements with the Mazda3 and Ford Focus. It was available with several engine options, including a five-cylinder engine with fuel injection and light-pressure turbocharging, a 2.0 diesel engine and a 1.8-liter gasoline engine. It was available in front and all-wheel drive configurations and was offered with manual and automatic transmission options. Starting in 2007, this model underwent a redesign with safety improvements, new technologies and more advanced engines.
There are a total of 2 generations of the Volvo S40. Among its rivals were vehicles such as the Acura ILX or the Volkswagen Jetta.
