About RANGE ROVER SPORT
The Range Rover Sport is an E-segment luxury SUV from the British manufacturer Land Rover, part of the Jaguar Land Rover company, which in turn is owned by Tata Motors. Its full name is Land Rover Range Rover Sport and it has been produced since 2005. It currently has a total of 2 generations. The first generation was born under the umbrella of Ford, who bought the Land Rover company from BMW in 2001. The second generation, however, was produced by Jaguar Land Rover Limited, which was what the company was named after the acquisition by the Indian group Tata Motors, leaving the duo of British brands as subsidiaries.
The Range Rover Sport stems from the Range Rover Stormer concept, a project that Land Rover showcased at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. It was an unusual 3-door coupe SUV, featuring gull-wing side doors. The design that ultimately saw the light of day was significantly different from the concept.
The first generation of the Sport is based on the Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3) platform. The second generation arrived in 2013, respecting the original concept, but with design lines inspired by the Evoque. Additionally, in 2015, the Range Rover Sport SVR (Special Vehicle Racing) was introduced. It features a supercharged 5-liter V8 engine and produces 550 hp of power and 681 Nm of torque. The engine block is the same one used by the Jaguar F-Type SVR.
Among the rivals of the Sport are the BMW X5, the BMW X6, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Audi Q7, among others.
