The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a compact SUV (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the Japanese marque Mitsubishi. It has been in production since 2017. It belongs to the same segment and has the same size as the Mitsubishi ASX. The differences between the two models are based on the fact that the body of the Eclipse Cross is more elongated, similar to what we know as an “SUV Coupe”. Its design is more attractive, with more aggressive and sporty lines. The Eclipse Cross also has a somewhat narrower trunk volume, although its interior is more spacious than the ASX, especially if we are going to carry passengers.
The origin of the name comes from the legendary Mitsubishi Eclipse, a sports coupe that the brand sold from the 90s until 2011. This vehicle has diesel and gasoline engines, as well as a PHEV (plug-in hybrid) version.
For its construction, the Eclipse Cross is based on the Mitsubishi GS Plarform, which is what the Japanese brand calla the shared platform with FCA and PSA (even before these two merged into the Stellantis conglomerate). The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross competes with other compact coupe-style SUVs in its segment, which is under development, since traditionally, SUVs have been B-segment cars. Some of its competitors are the Citroen C4 Aircross or the Renault Arkana.
