SUBARU BRZ: timing chain or timing belt information

About SUBARU BRZ

The Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 are closely related sports coupés developed jointly by Subaru and Toyota. They combine a front-mounted boxer engine with rear-wheel drive and are manufactured by Subaru in Gunma, Japan.

The first-generation Toyota model was sold as the GT86 in Europe and as the 86 in several other markets. In North America, it was also marketed as the Scion FR-S until 2016. The Toyota name refers to the Corolla AE86, while BRZ stands for “Boxer, Rear-wheel drive, Zenith”. FR-S stands for “Front-engine, Rear-wheel-drive, Sport”.

Sharing the development of a sports-car platform helped the manufacturers spread the costs of a relatively low-volume model. First-generation rivals included the Audi TT, Nissan 370Z, Mercedes-Benz SLK, Peugeot RCZ and entry-level BMW Z4 versions.

The first-generation BRZ, Toyota GT86 and Scion FR-S range did not include diesel engines. Check the generation and engine listed below to identify the timing system for the particular BRZ version.
