BMW Z4 — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / BMW / List of BMW Serie Z4 Models without Timing Belt

The BMW Z4 is a luxury sports car manufactured by the German marque BMW. Its production first started in 2003 as the successor to the old BMW Z3. There are three generations of this sports car.

The first generation BMW Z4 was produced between 2002 and 2008. The E85 is a roadster and the E86 is a coupe. They replaced the BMW Z3 and were produced exclusively in Greer, South Carolina. The Z4 M, with S54 inline six-cylinder engine, was the performance model during this first stage.

The BMW Z4 (E89) is the second generation of the BMW Z4 range of two-door roadsters, produced between 2009 and 2016. The E89 replaced the E85/E86 Z4 and is the fourth model in BMW’s Z Series. The E89 Z4 was the first Z Series model to use a retractable hardtop, meaning there were no longer separate roadster and coupe versions. It was produced at BMW’s Regensburg plant along with the BMW 3 Series E93 Convertible, making it the third Z Series car to be made in Germany since the Z1 and Z8.

The third generation was introduced in 2018 as the successor to the E89 Z4. It recovered the soft-top, and was developed in collaboration with Toyota. This sports car shares the same platform as the fifth-generation Toyota Supra. This model has a better suspension, a more optimized trunk and a considerable weight reduction.

Some of the alternatives to the BMW Z4 include the Nissan 370Z, the Porsche 718 Spyder, Audi TT, Lexus LC or Mercedes-Benz SLC.
