The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is a luxury minivan (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the German marque BMW. This vehicle has been in production since 2014, and despite being named the same as the sporty BMW 2 Series, it doesn’t really share many elements with the coupe. There are 2 generations of this vehicle to date, the most recent one being introduced in 2022.
The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is a 5-door, 5-seater minivan. It has front-wheel drive (although there are versions with xDrive 4-wheel drive) and front transverse engine. In its first generation, this model is known internally with the code F45, while the Gran Tourer has the identifier F46.
This BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer was launched in 2015. It is a longer MPV compared to the Active Tourer. This model has an option to fit a total of 7 seats, as well as the possibility to purchase it with any package: Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury and M Sport.
At the end of 2021, BMW presented the second generation of this model, with a very noticeable aesthetic change and a focus on hybridization. This version is marketed in MHEV (220i and 223i) and PHEV (225e xDrive and 230 xDrive) versions, following the trend that had already begun with the restyling of the previous model, where hybrid variants were introduced in this minivan.
Both generations of the BMW Active / Gran Tourer are built on the BMW UKL2 platform. Therefore, it shares elements and structure with the BMW X1, BMW X2, Mini Countryman and Mini Clubman.
The Active Tourer and Gran Tourer compete almost exclusively against the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, although the Volkswagen Golf Plus could be considered an affordable alternative.
