About AUDI 90
The Audi 90 is a D-segment luxury car manufactured by Audi (Volkswagen Group). It was a luxury version of the Audi 80. It had 3 generations, although in some markets it had other names. The first Audi 90 was called the Audi Super 90, and was marketed between 1966 and 1971 as a variant of the Audi F103. Subsequently, the second generation was produced in the 1980s as a performance version of the Audi 80 B2. The last Audi 90 was based on the B3 chassis, and ceased production in 1991. Later, this car would be replaced by the performance versions of the Audi A4, the Audi S4, and the Audi RS4.
Audi's objective with this model was to compete against the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes 190 with a more affordable model than the Audi 100. Being a performance version, the Audi 90 was sold exclusively with inline-five engines, although it had a 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel version. The second-generation model had two versions. The original was sold with front-wheel drive (Typ81) and Quattro all-wheel drive (Typ85). The revision arrived in 1985 adapting the engines to unleaded gasoline.
In May 1987, Audi launched the Audi 90 B3 (Typ 89), a more modern version with a sleeker design. The engines were updated leaving behind the more obsolete ones, and the Audi 90 Quattro 20V went on sale in 1988, the brand's first 4-valve-per-cylinder engine developing 160 hp. The 2.0 20V, 2.3E, and 2.3 20V models were available with Quattro all-wheel drive.
