The Audi R8 is a two-door sports car (S-segment in Europe) manufactured by the German marque Audi. Its name comes from the prototype used during the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. It was presented in 2006 as Audi’s exclusive supercar. Some of its qualities are its Quattro traction (only in some versions, others simply have rear-wheel drive) and its central engine longidudinal. There are Coupé and Convertible (Spyder) versions.
The R8 is developed under Audi Sport GmbH, a subsidiary company of Audi AG. The first generation shared a platform with the Lamborghini Gallardo, while the current model shares many elements with the Lamborghini Huracán.
The Audi R8 competes with many supercars in its category , such as the Nissan GT-R, the McLaren 570S, the Aston Martin Vantage, the legendary Porsche 911 or the BMW M8.
