Audi A2 — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Audi / List of Audi A2 Models without Timing Belt

The Audi A2 is a subcompact minivan (B-segment in Europe) manufactured by the German marque Audi. This vehicle was produced between 1999 and 2005, and was sold for only one generation.

The Audi A2 was a small minivan focused on efficiency. It was built in aluminum, had light weight (830 kg) and its range of engines made it a really low consumption car. In fact, it was the first 5-door car in Europe to declare a consumption of less than 3 liters per 100 kilometers.

It was produced on the Volkswagen Group A04 platform (PQ24), and equipped the smallest engines from the FSI and TDI range. The Audi A2 competed directly with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the undisputed leader of the time in this segment of luxury subcompact minivans. Unfortunately for Audi, this model did not pay off, probably because of its avant-garde design. However, its chief designer has sometimes commented that part of its failure was the price. VAG did not skimp when it came to making a quality product, using premium materials. Hence the price of this vehicle was not particularly affordable.

In 2011, Audi showed an electric car concept based on the A2 to compete against models such as the Nissan Leaf or the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. In 2021, the brand re-emphasized this, so it is not ruled out that the Audi A2 will return as a fully electrified model.
