About Lexus SC
The Lexus SC is a luxury grand tourer E-segment coupé manufactured by Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, between 1991 and 2010. It had 2 generations throughout its history. In Japan, it was sold as the Toyota Soarer between 1991 and 2005.
The first generation of the Lexus SC was introduced in 1991 with two engine options: the SC 400 with a powerful 4-liter V8 producing 250 hp, and the SC 300 with a 3-liter inline-6 producing 225 hp. In 1997 both engines were updated to the ULEV anti-pollution standard, gaining power. The vehicle was manufactured on the JZZ31 platform until the year 2000.
The second generation arrived in 2001 and represented a complete renewal of the model by adopting a luxury convertible body style. It featured a new 4.3-liter V8 engine producing 288 hp, paired with an automatic transmission. Its design, the work of Sotiris Kovos, featured sharper lines and a fastback rear end. Some units were sold in a Pebble Beach special edition. It ceased production in 2010 after 10 years on the market.
The Lexus SC stood out in Japanese Super GT racing, where it won several championships between 2006 and 2009 thanks to a specific 500 hp competition version. The main alternatives to the Lexus SC were the Mercedes CL-Class, the BMW 8 Series, the Acura Legend Coupé, and the Cadillac Eldorado.
