Volkswagen New Beetle — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Volkswagen / List of Volkswagen New Beetle Models without Timing Belt

The Volkswagen New Beetle is a compact car produced by the German manufacturer Volkswagen. It is a reinterpretation of the legendary Volkswagen Beetle, only with modern elements. The Volkswagen New Beetle arrived to the market in 1998. Its predecessor, the Volkswagen Type 1, was sold until 1996 in Brazil and until 2003 in Mexico. The New Beetle had 2 generations until it stoopped being produced in 2020.

Volkswagen has never classified this vehicle in a specific segment. However, it did not come to rival any vehicle of the brand, especially because of the price of this vehicle. The biggest competitor to the New Beetle has always been the Mini Hatchback, which in the hands of BMW also experienced its own modern interpretation.

The New Beetle was sold with hatchback and convertible bodywork (New Beetle Cabriolet). The first version was manufactured on the Volkswagen Group A4 platform, shared with VAG C-segment vehicles. This model was redesigned in 2006, but quite simple and without updating the mechanics. The second generation was renamed ‘Beetle’, and used the A5 PQ35 platform.
