The Volkswagen Touareg is an SUV manufactured by the German marque Volkswagen. It belonged to the E-segment during its first generation and to the D-segment in later generations. It has front-wheel or all-wheel drive under 4Motion technology. It shares a platform with VAG’s large SUVs, especially with the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne.
It is named after the nomadic Touareg tribe, inhabitants of the Sahara desert who are known for their strength and resilience. There have been a total of three generations of the Touareg to date. The first generation came onto the market in 2002.
