Kia Niro — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Kia / List of Kia Niro Models without Timing Belt

The Kia Niro is a compact SUV car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the South Korean marque Kia. It went into production in 2016, although the concept debuted in 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Kona is sold in gasoline hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric (0.0 EV) versions. The electric version has been available since 2018 and is called the Kia e-Niro. The Niro is based on a completely new platform, so it is not ruled out that in the long term this platform will also be used by a Hyundai vehicle.

The Niro competes with several SUVs in its segment, such as the Peugeot 3008, the Opel Grandland X, the Renault Kadjar and the Nissan Qashqai. There is only one generation of this crossover.

If a car model is specified in blue, it means its motor engine has a timing chain; that is, it has no timing belt. The rest of the vehicles marked in grey have a timing belt/cam belt.

Kia Niro I – First Generation (DE) (2016)

SUV

One of the most palpable differences between the Hyundai Kona and the Kia Niro (besides the fact that the Niro is larger since it belongs to a higher segment) is that the latter was created as a transitional vehicle until the absolute transition to electrification. The Niro has no non-hybridized versions, just as it does not have any diesel-powered versions.

Diesel Engines

There are no diesel-engined versions of the Kia Niro Gen 1.

Petrol Engines

  • G4LE 1.6 GDI Hybrid 141 CV (2016)
  • G4LE 1.6 GDI Hybrid 105 CV (2016)
