ALFA ROMEO 164: timing chain or timing belt information

About ALFA ROMEO 164

The Alfa Romeo 164 is a D-segment passenger car manufactured by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo. It was designed by Pininfarina and shared many components with the Fiat Croma, the Saab 9000, and the Lancia Thema. The 164 was succeeded by the Alfa Romeo 166 in 1998.

This sedan was the result of an agreement between Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, and Saab in 1978. These brands joined forces to reduce the costs of their executive sedans by using the shared “Tipo 4” platform. This would allow them to compete with other, better-established brands in the segment, such as Ford, Opel, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

The 164 model was developed from the 156 project and completed in 1981. It was the last model designed entirely by Alfa Romeo before the brand was acquired by Fiat.
