About ALFA ROMEO SPIDER
The Alfa Romeo Spider is a convertible sports car from the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo. Various models from the Italian brand have been released under this name since 1955. Originally, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta was the first model to bear this name. Later, in 1962, a corresponding version was introduced for the Giulia. And finally, the Alfa Romeo Spider—without any additional model name—debuted in 1966.
It is difficult to divide the Alfa Romeo Spider into generations. However, its history can be divided into three stages:
Later, the “Spider” name was also applied to the convertible model based on the Alfa Romeo 8C: the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider.
The original Alfa Romeo Spider is known as the “Duetto” and is one of the longest-running roadsters in automotive history. It was produced for 28 years and had four series in total (or restylings).
In 1995, the Duetto was finally replaced by a much more modern model. This convertible is often referred to as the “Spider 916” to distinguish it from the earlier Spiders. This Spider is the coupe version of the Alfa Romeo GTV 2+2 and was sold until 2004.
Finally, the history of this model concludes for now with the 2004 Alfa Romeo Spider, based on the Alfa Romeo Brera (Type 939).
Production began in 2005, following its debut at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show. The Spider replaced the previous Alfa Romeo GTV. As was also the case with that model, the Spider was derived into a convertible version, known as the Alfa Romeo Spider (Type 939).
