About ALFA ROMEO 155

The Alfa Romeo 155 is a D-segment sedan from the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo. It was produced between 1992 and 1998. It was a single-generation model, although its two facelifts are usually counted as separate generations. It was built on the same platform as the Fiat Tipo and the Fiat Tempra. The 155 replaced the Alfa Romeo 75. However, it featured front-wheel drive, the exact opposite of its predecessor.

The Alfa Romeo 155 was unveiled at the 1992 Barcelona Motor Show and, a couple of months later, at the Geneva Motor Show. Four gasoline versions were introduced: two inline-4 Twin Spark engines and two 2.5-liter Busso V6 engines. The Q4 version featured all-wheel drive, a turbocharger, a 16-valve engine, and produced 192 CV. The engine was derived from the Lancia Delta Integrale. Barely a year later, in 1993, the 155 underwent a facelift. The Italians also added the TS 1.7 version and two turbocharged diesel versions: the 1.9 TD and the 2.5 TD.

Starting in December 1994, the model underwent a major facelift, which was offered alongside the first series until March 1995. The redesign affected numerous aesthetic details, such as new bumpers, widened fenders, and the Alfa Romeo emblem on the front grille, which became chrome-plated (also optional in the body color) and was redesigned in depth, featuring the grille from the Q4 version. The interior also underwent some minor changes, notably to the headrests and the instrument panel. Trimmed-down 8-valve versions also went on sale.

In 1998, this model was replaced by the 156, with fewer than 200,000 units produced. Despite its modest sales, the model has since become quite popular among the tuning community. Its competitors included the BMW E36, the final generation of the Audi 80, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202.
