About ALFA ROMEO 75 / MILANO

The Alfa Romeo 75 (known as the Alfa Romeo Milano in the United States) is a D-segment sedan from the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo. It was sold between 1985 and 1993. For purists, the 75 is the last “pure” Alfa Romeo, as it was created just before Fiat acquired the brand. In fact, its successor, the Alfa Romeo 155—already under the ownership of the Fiat Group—lost one of the brand’s defining characteristics: rear-wheel drive.

The Alfa Romeo 75 was introduced as a replacement for the original Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Its name commemorated the Italian brand’s 75th anniversary. At the time, Alfa Romeo was going through a very difficult financial period and did not have the budget to develop a car entirely from scratch. Therefore, both the engine and the body were derived from the Giulietta. Many of these components were already derived from the 1972 Alfa Romeo Alfetta. Even so, the 75 managed to develop its own personality and striking aesthetics.

The model spanned a single generation, though two distinct series can be distinguished. The second series arrived in 1988, featuring more refined headlights and much more elaborate interiors. In total, 375,000 units were sold, and the car was available with a wide range of engines and different trim levels. Notable versions include the Turbo Evoluzione, launched to compete in Group A rally racing, and the 1.8 Turbo Quadrifoglio Verde. The most radical version was the Alfa Romeo 75 V6 QV, which produced approximately 192 CV.
