Ford C-Max — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Ford / List of Ford C-Max Models without a Timing Belt

The Ford C-Max is a MVP (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the American automaker Ford. It is a compact multi-purpose vehicle built on the same chassis as the Ford Focus. It was first marketed as the Ford Focus C-Max. It became commercially available in 2003 as the successor to the Ford Escape, which was relaunched by Ford years later. The C-Max or Focus C Max stopped its production in 2019. It wasn’t replaced by another MPV. The rise of SUV popularity made Americans choose Ford Kuga and Ford Escape as the successors to the C-Max. The Grand C-Max is a larger version of the C-Max, despite rating under the S-Max. The Grand C-Max is market replacement to the Ford Explorer.

The C-Max used the Ford C1 Platform for its two generations (Mk I and MK II). The agreements between Ford and Mazda mean that this vehicle shares a multitude of components with the Mazda Premacy or Mazda 5.

The second and last generation came out in 2011. It was manufactured on Ford’s New Global C Platform. This new model included a larger version, called Ford Grand C-Max, which was created to compete with the Renault Grand Scénic and the Citröen C4 Grand Picasso among others. This seven-seat version was not available in all markets.

This second generation also had hybrid versions. The C-Max Energi, with a PHEV-type hybridization and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, with 2.0 Atkinson cycle petrol engines accompanied by an electric engine with a 1.4 kWh battery.

The Ford C-Max stayed in Ford’s dossier for two generations as the middle minivan between the Ford B-Max and the S-Max, being the Ford Galaxy the most sophisticated MPV by the marque. Some competitors to the Ford C-Max are Opel Zafira, Kia Carens, Citroën C4 Picasso / Grand Picasso, Volkswagen Touran, Peugeot 5008 I and the Fiat 500L.
