Mercedes-Benz R-Class — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Mercedes-Benz / List of Mercedes R-Class Models without Timing Belt

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class is a large luxury MPV (F-segment in Europe) manufactured by the German automaker Daimler AG. It went on sale in 2005, and ceased production in 2017. It had only one generation, although we can differenciate two eras.

The R-Class was a model designed to continue Mercedes’s minivan legacy. The W251 was the third minivan manufactured under the Mercedes-Benz brand, after the A-Class and B-Class. The idea was to offer a luxury alternative to their vans.

The R-Class was sold with V6 and V8 gasoline engines as well as V6 turbo diesel engines. The vehicle had two variants, Short-Wheelbase and Long-Wheelbase. Depending on the model, they had 5, 6 or 7 seats.

Despite Daimler’s attempts to succeed in this segment, the R-Class did not perform well in terms of sales, especially because of its aesthetics, which the clients did not find appealing —although it was significantly more attractive than the SsangYong Rodius, which was built on the same platform—.
