Mercedes-Benz GLE — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Mercedes-Benz / List of Mercedes GLE Models without Timing Belt

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a luxury SUV (E-segment in Europe) manufactured by the German automaker Daimler. It was previously called “Mercedes-Benz M-Class“, but changed its name to suit the new nomenclature for Mercedes SUVs. It is a large, luxury car positioned above the Mercedes GLC. It was originally created to meet the demand for 4×4 off-road vehicles in the United States and Canada. There are four generations of the Mercedes GLE.

Some of the Mercedes-Benz GLE competitors are the Porsche Cayenne, the Volkswagen Touareg and the BMW X5.

Mercedes-Benz GLE. Timing Belt or Timing Chain?

Down below you will see a list with all Mercedes GLE-Class models that have been produced. They are classified by model identifier, year and type of bodywork. Above each list, we show you a series of pictures so that you can have a visual reference for each model. In some cases, both the original and its updated design are displayed to help you identify them with ease.

In this guide you will find all Mercedes GLE.

■ Timing Belt / Cam Belt (Correa / Faja de Distribución)
■ Timing Chain (Cadena de Distribución / Cadena de Tiempo)
■ Gear Driven (Distribución por Engranajes)
100% Electric, No Timing (Sin Distribución)
Unknown / Not Updated (Información desconocida)

If a car model is specified in blue, it means its motor engine has a timing chain; that is, it has no timing belt. The rest of the vehicles marked in grey have a timing belt/cam belt.

Mercedes-Benz M-Class – First Generation (W163)

SUV (W163)

Although this SUV was named “Mercedes-Benz M-Class“, it is not sold with an MXXX nomenclature, since BMW already used it for their own top-of-the-line cars. Therefore, Mercedes branded their M-Class vehicles with an MLXXX nomenclature. In spite of this, the model is called “Mercedes-Benz M-Class” and not “Mercedes-Benz ML-Class“.
