About MERCEDES-BENZ GT
The Mercedes-AMG GT is a sports grand tourer produced by the German brand Mercedes-AMG. It is the second model developed entirely by Mercedes' high-performance division, following the SLS AMG. The AMG GT was introduced in 2014 as the successor to the SLS AMG in the brand's large sports coupe segment. It has had a total of 2 generations so far.
The first generation of the Mercedes-AMG GT (C190 / R190) was unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It is available in GT, GT S, GT C, GT R, and GT Black Series versions, with outputs ranging from 462 hp for the base GT to 720 hp for the GT Black Series. All of them feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, except for the GT3 racing version which uses a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. It was marketed with coupe and roadster body styles.
The first-generation AMG GT uses an aluminum body over a platform derived from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212). In 2017 it received a facelift with changes to the front end and new colors. Mid-cycle, in 2020, another update was made focusing on improving the equipment of the base versions.
The second generation of the Mercedes-AMG GT (C192) was introduced in 2023, sharing its platform with the new Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster. It is a complete redesign compared to the previous generation, with significant changes in dimensions, engines, and technologies.
The C192 is larger in all its dimensions than the previous model. The weight also increases noticeably. It incorporates 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive as standard with variable torque distribution between the axles. It abandons the dual-clutch transmission in favor of a 9-speed AMG Speedshift MCT automatic.
In this model, the twin-turbo V8 engine is renamed the M177 (instead of the previous generation's M178) and continues to offer outputs between 469 hp for the GT 55 and 585 hp for the range-topping GT 63. In terms of equipment, the C192 takes an important qualitative leap. It stands out for its technological modernization in infotainment and driver assistance systems.
In terms of design, the stylistic language follows in the footsteps of the previous GT in terms of proportions and general lines. However, it incorporates the latest AMG design details such as the Panamericana grille, sleeker headlights, or new specific alloy wheels.
Overall, the Mercedes-AMG GT stands out for its aggressive and sporty design, as well as its excellent driving dynamics. In addition to the street models, there are GT3 and GT4 versions for customer racing that have achieved success in championships such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours. To top it all off, this model has also been chosen to serve as the Safety Car in FIA motorsport championships, such as Formula 1.
Among the alternatives to the Mercedes-AMG GT, we find other equivalent vehicles such as the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, or the BMW M8 Competition.
