Nissan Pathfinder — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Nissan / List of Nissan Pathfinder Models without Timing Belt

The Nissan Pathfinder is an SUV (E-segment in Europe) of the Japanese marque Nissan. It has been marketed since 1985, and has a total of 5 generations to date. This model was sold under the name of Nissan Terrano in some markets during the first generations. Since 2004, this SUV is sold internationally under the name Nissan Pathfinder.

The first generation Nissan Pathfinder debuted in 1985 as a two-door SUV. It shared many of its components with the Nissan Hardbody Truck. This model came out to compete with other equivalent vehicles from the competition, such as the Jeep Cherokee, Ford Bronco II or Chevrolet Blazer. It had an optional four-wheel drive system that could be used while the car was in motion, something unusual at the time.

The second generation of the Nissan Pathfinder came out in 1995 with a more modern style in both the original and the updated 1999 version. Engines and transmissions were also improved. Japanese and European models continued to offer diesel engines. Starting in 2002, the Japanese went for the Murano and X-Trail in their own country, which were offered as two more compact options. In parallel, this second-generation model was sold as the Infiniti QX4 or Nissan Terrano Regulus.

The third generation of this vehicle went on sale in 2005, and was built on the Nissan F-Alpha platform. It was equipped with more powerful gasoline and diesel engines. This model underwent several redesigns in 2008 and 2010.

In 2012, Nissan introduced its fourth-generation Pathfinder. It adopted a unibody structure instead of a body-on-frame design. It shares a platform with several of the brand’s vehicles, such as the Altima, Maxima, Murano and Infiniti Quest. In 2014 the model was updated, and hybrid versions were also added. In 2017, this model again underwent a few exterior and performance upgrades.

The fifth and current generation Pathfinder was introduced in 2021 and went on sale in 2022. It is based on the same platform as the previous model, although its design has changed. This version features the same engines, although changes have been made to the transmission.
