About NISSAN CUBE
The Nissan Cube is a subcompact minivan or B-segment mini MPV produced by Nissan. It began production in 1998 and ceased in 2019, spanning a total of 3 generations. Initially, it was sold only in Japan. Later, the model began to be marketed in North America and Europe.
The first generation of the Cube was introduced in 1998. It shared the same platform as the Nissan Micra, with 1.3 engines and a 4-speed automatic gearbox or CVT. Optionally, it was available with 4-wheel drive.
The second generation of the Cube was launched in 2002 with a more spacious interior. This time it was based on the third-generation Micra platform. It was offered with 1.4 and 1.5 engines, with a 4-speed automatic gearbox or Xtronic CVT. It drew attention for its design, featuring exaggeratedly square lines and an asymmetrical rear window line.
The third generation was revealed at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. It was exported to Europe and North America for the first time. Its design was more rounded, but it maintained its asymmetrical rear window. The tailgate opened sideways like a door. 1.5- and 1.6-liter gasoline engines were offered, as well as a 1.5 diesel. The gearboxes were 5- or 6-speed manual, or CVT. The model ceased production in 2019, leaving the Nissan Note / Versa Note as its indirect successor.
Regardless of its generation, the Cube is one of those misunderstood vehicles, despite its practicality, something similar to what happened back in the day to the Fiat Multipla. However, it won several awards such as the IIHS Top Safety Pick and the AutoPacific Best in Class Vehicle Satisfaction Award.
Among the main rivals to this Cube, cars like the Kia Soul or the Toyota Urban Cruiser stand out.
