About MAZDA CX-50
The Mazda CX-50 is a C-segment compact SUV produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda since 2022 for the North American and Chinese markets. To date, there is only one generation of this model. It does not replace the CX-5, although it occupies a similar space. However, it is a slightly shorter vehicle.
The Mazda CX-50 is based on the same transverse front-wheel-drive platform as the fourth-generation Mazda3 and the CX-30. It offers a more square and rugged design than the CX-5, oriented toward a more adventurous and outdoor use. It incorporates Mazda's i-Activ all-wheel drive as standard.
Regarding engines, it is available with the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G naturally aspirated powerplant with 187 hp or the 227 hp turbocharged variant. The hybrid version for China mounts a 2.5-liter Toyota powerplant with 176 hp.
The CX-50 is manufactured in the United States at the Mazda Toyota plant in Huntsville, Alabama, and is also produced in China by Changan Mazda. In 2023, its commercialization began in Colombia and Mexico. The top-of-the-line version in the United States is the Premium Plus Turbo, while in China an exclusive Meridian Edition variant with off-road accessories is offered.
The main alternatives to the Mazda CX-50 are the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4, the Nissan Rogue / Qashqai, the Hyundai Tucson, or the Volkswagen Tiguan, among many others.
