Mazda MX-5 — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Mazda / List of Mazda MX-5 Models without Timing Belt

The Mazda MX-5 is a two-seater sports car manufactured by the Japanese marque Mazda. It is a roadster-type vehicle with front-central engine and rear-wheel drive. It is known under the names Mazda Roadster, Mazda MX-5, Eunos Roadster or, as motorheads call it, Mazda MX-5 Miata. There are both convertible and hardtop versions.

The MX-5 is one of Mazda’s flagship vehicles. Throughout its 4 generations, the brand has strived to bring its concept to perfection by changing the minimum within its design to maintain its aesthetics. The fourth generation of the MX-5 uses the Mazda N platform. At the end of 2020, the Mazda MX-5 was awarded ‘Most Reliable Car of the Year’ according to Consumer Reports magazine, achieving a reliability score of 98/100.

The MX-5 or Miata is a relatively affordable sports car when compared to luxury competitors such as the BMW Z4 or the Audi TT Roadster. Other two-seater sports cars that are more in line with its price range are the Subaru BRZ —along with its twin the Toyota GT-86—, the Nissan 370Z, the Mini Cabrio JCW and finally the Lotus Elise.
