The Mazda CX-5 is a compact SUV (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the Japanese marque Mazda. It is the replacement for the Mazda CX-7. It was presented at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and the final version was shown a year later at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It shares manufacturing platform with the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6. In addition, it was the first vehicle of the Japanese company to mount engines with SkyActiv technology, specially designed to reduce fuel consumption and to minimize harmful emissions.

There are two generations of the CX-5. Some of its competitors include the Opel Grandland X, Renault Austral, Peugeot 3008, the Ford Kuga, the Toyota RAV4,the Nissan Qashqai, the Seat Ateca and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
