The Renault Austral is a compact SUV (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by the French automaker Renault. It started to be marketed in 2022 as a replacement for the Renault Kadjar. It is built on the third-generation CMF-CD platform, shared with models such as the Renault Talisman, the Nissan Qashqai and Nissan X-Trail. It has only one generation so far.
The Austral is a crossover which offers hybrid engines. That is its main difference compared to the Kadjar, which did not offer electric versions. On the other hand, Renault has worked extensively on the design of this model to make it more visually striking, something that did not happen in its predecessor, which started from a very continuist and conventional design.
In terms of powertrains, all versions of the Renault Austral are sold with some form of electrification. It only offers gasoline engines, as Renault decided not to equip diesel engines in this crossover. The most basic models start with a light hybridization (Mild Hybrid), while the rest use a standard non-plug-in hybridization system.
Some alternatives to this vehicle include other hybrid SUVs in its segment, such as the Opel Grandland, the Toyota RAV4, the Citroen C5 Aircross, the Peugeot 3008 and the Ford Kuga.
