About Renault Laguna
The Renault Laguna is a D-segment passenger car produced by the French manufacturer Renault. It is a model that was in production for 21 years across 3 generations. It had the Renault 21 as its predecessor and was replaced by the Renault Talisman.
The first generation of the Laguna (X56) was introduced in 1994 and remained in production until 2001. It was manufactured on Renault's B platform. It offered 5-door liftback and estate body styles. The engines were 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, and 3.0 V6 petrol, as well as 1.9 and 2.2 diesel.
Regarding the design, it was the work of Patrick Le Quément. In terms of safety, it featured front and side airbags, as well as options such as ABS and traction control.
The second generation (X74) arrived in 2001 with major improvements in safety, technology, and performance. It stood out for being the first car in Europe to feature a keyless entry and start system. The engines were now 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.0 turbo, and 3.0 V6 petrol, plus 1.9 and 2.2 dCi diesel. The design took cues from the Initiale concept.
This Laguna was manufactured on an evolution of Renault's B platform. Structurally, it was a more advanced car, which is why it was the first automobile to record 5 EuroNCAP stars. It incorporated 6 airbags and electronic stability control.
The third and final generation (X91) was introduced in 2007. A 2-door coupé was now added to the hatchback and estate body styles. It shared the D platform with models such as the Nissan Altima or Teana. The engines were 1.6, 2.0, 2.0 turbo, and 3.5 V6 petrol, plus 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0 V6 diesel. The initial design was inspired by the Fluence concept.
The main alternatives to the Renault Laguna were other passenger cars such as the Opel Vectra, Opel Insignia, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Avensis, Peugeot 407, and Nissan Primera.
