Toyota Avensis — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Toyota / Toyota Avensis List without Timing Belt

The Toyota Avensis is a family car (D-segment in Europe) manufactured by the Japanese brand Toyota. It was first produced in 1997 as a successor to the Toyota Carina E. The Avensis was a gamble by Toyota in the European market. In many other markets, Toyota has preferred to sell the Toyota Camry. At the end of 2018, the Japanese group decidid Avensis sales were deficcient due to the increasing popularity of SUV vehicles. Therefore, Toyota decided to put an end to the Avensis production and focus instead on the Toyota Camry. This cuts costs for the marque, since it doesn’t have to deal with two pararell models in different markets.

The principal bodyworks for the Avensis were saloon and sedan (a four-door saloon and a five-door liftback, to be exact). There also exists a sports car called Toyota Avensis Verso, but it was created in a different platform from the original Avensis.

Although Toyota sold the Camry in North America, it also sold the Avensis under one of its different branches. To be concrete, the Scion tC Coupé that was sold in the USA is a two-door variant of the Avensis.

The alternative cars to the Toyota Avensis were the Mazda 6, the Nissan Primera and the Honda Accord. Apart from Japanese cars, we can find competitors such as the Ford Mondeo, the Volksvawen Passat, the Citroen C5, the Peugeot 508 (and its predeccessors), the Renailt Talismán and the Renault Laguna. The Toyota Avensis had a total of three generations.
