About TOYOTA TUNDRA
The Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck from the Japanese manufacturer Toyota. This model has had 3 generations to date, with its predecessor being the Toyota T100. It is also the first large pickup truck manufactured entirely in the US by Toyota.
The first generation of the Tundra shared many similarities with the older Toyota T100 and the compact Toyota Tacoma. It was launched in 1999 and shared a 3.4-liter V6 engine, which was the largest displacement powerplant in both the Tacoma and the T100. Additionally, it was also available with a 4.7-liter V8.
This generation was built on the XK30 platform for rear-wheel drive versions and the XK40 for four-wheel drive versions. It was available with a regular cab, 'Access Cab' extended cab, and 'Double Cab' crew cab.
The second-generation Tundra arrived in 2007. It offered a towing capacity of over 4,500 kg and a payload capacity of over 900 kg. It had three engine options: a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 hp, a 4.7-liter V8 with 276 hp, and a 4.0-liter V6 with 236 hp. The model was built on Toyota's new F1 platform.
The third generation was introduced in September 2021 and is built on Toyota's TNGA-F platform. It offers two engine options: a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 producing between 348 and 389 hp, and a hybrid version of this same engine paired with an electric motor producing a total of 437 hp. Both options are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. For the first time, a V8 engine option is not offered. It is available in extended cab and 'CrewMax' crew cab configurations, with various bed lengths.
Among the alternatives to the Toyota Tundra are other large pickups sold in the United States, such as the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and RAM 1500.
