About TOYOTA SIENNA
The Toyota Sienna is a D-segment minivans or MPV produced by Toyota. It was launched in 1997 in North America to replace the Toyota Previa, although it did not reach all international markets. In total, it has had 4 generations, with the current fourth generation being launched in 2020.
The first generation of the Sienna was introduced in 1997 and stayed on the market until 2003. It was equipped with a 3-liter V6 engine producing 194 hp coupled to a 4-speed automatic transmission. It featured front-wheel drive and space for 7 or 8 passengers. Its design was based on the Toyota Camry platform, with the idea of offering a minivan with the reliability of a sedan. Its dimensions were smaller than the competition, but it stood out for its safety.
The second generation was manufactured between 2003 and 2009. It grew in size compared to the previous one and debuted the Toyota K platform. The engine was a 3.3-liter V6 producing 230 hp, which was updated in 2007 to a 3.5-liter engine with 266 hp. It offered space for the same number of passengers and, for the first time, featured all-wheel drive. The cabin was more versatile, with individually removable seats.
The third generation arrived in 2010 and remained until 2020. It continued to be manufactured on Toyota's K platform. It offered a 4-cylinder engine with 187 hp and a V6 engine with 266 hp, which was later updated to 296 hp. This generation debuted a sportier SE version and became safer, featuring adaptive cruise control and a pre-collision system.
The fourth and final generation was introduced in 2020 with Toyota's new GA-K platform. It is the first to feature a standard hybrid powertrain with 243 hp. It also grows slightly in size and introduces comfort features such as an integrated vacuum cleaner or a cooler between the seats.
The main rivals of the Toyota Sienna are the Chrysler Pacifica, which offers a 300 hp plug-in hybrid version, and the Honda Odyssey.
