The Toyota Celica is a sports car manufactured by Japanese automaker Toyota. It was in production from 1970 to 2006. Its name stems from latin ‘coelica’, which means ‘celestial.
During its seven generations, the Celica was always powered by an inline 4-cylinder engine. It had different bodystyles, such as the coupé (including a notchback version), convertibles and liftbacks. Like many other vehicles, the Celica was created as a coupé version of a higher volume seda, the Toyota Carina.
The Celica was the forerunner of Toyota Supra. This model was developed from the Toyota Celica Supra, a version of the Celica with an in-line 6-cylinder engine that was launched in 1978. Starting with the fourth generation, the vehicle changed from a rear-wheel-drive car to a front-wheel-drive vehicle.
