The Renault Kangoo is a small van or light commercial vehicle (known as LAV or Panel Van) manufactured by the French marque Renault. It has replaced the Renault Express since 1997. Currently, the Renault Kangoo is sold under several names thanks to the Renault-Nissan Alliance and agreements with Mercedes-Benz. The Nissan brand markets it under the name Nissan NV250 (formerly Nissan Kubistar, a name it still maintains in Japan) and Mercedes-Benz markets it as Mercedes-Benz Citan.

The Renault Kangoo has evolved throughout its three generations, in which it has had a multitude of redesigns or “phases”. Before this van, small commercial vehicles were derived from passenger cars (the Renault Express was nothing more than a van adapting the base of the Renault Supercinco). To manufacture the Kangoo, Renault did use the Renault Clio platform, but the van itself had its own original design, which made it stand out from its competitors and become a leading sales vehicle.

For the second generation, the Kangoo would grow in size, as it began to be manufactured on the platform of the Renault Megane and Renault Scenic. Variants would also be created, such as the Kangoo Compact and Kangoo Express Compact (with a shorter wheelbase) or its Grand Kangoo version, in order to compete against the Peugeot Partner and the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi.

In addition to the competitors mentioned above, the Kangoo rivals other models such as the Citroen Berlingo and the Opel Combo. Renault plans to convert this van into an all-electric vehicle, a segment that would cover the Renault Kangoo Z.E. and Renault Grand Kangoo Z.E., which were two light MPVs with zero emissions (ZEV).
