Renault Clio — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Renault / List of Renault Clio Models without Timing Belt

The Renault Clio is a subcompact car (B-segment in Europe) manufactured by the French automaker Renault. It began to be marketed in 1990, succeeding the Renault Supercinco. It won the European Car of the Year award twice: in 1991, and later again in 2006.

The Clio is one of the best-selling cars in the world, becoming the best-selling French car between 1998 and 2003. The first generation of the Renault Clio was based on the chassis of the legendary Renault Super 5, derived from the Renault 9 and the Renault 11. Its success was such that the second generation would arrive shortly in 1998 (after 3 phases of the Clio I ).

The second-generation Clio was notorious, and had a though rivalry with another French vehicle, the Peugeot 206. It had a total of 5 restylings, the last two being called “Clio Campus“. During this generation, a sedan version of the Clio, the Renault Symbol, was delevoped and sold mainly in South America,

In most recent generations of the Clio, the utility vehicle has grown significantly in size. Family body styles (Break) have also been introduced. Finally, it should be noted that throughout history, the Renault Clio has had many sporty versions, some of them limited edition and even intended for competition:

  • Renault Clio Williams (Gen 1),
  • Williams Rallye (Gen 1),
  • Renault Clio RS (Gen 2),
  • Renault Clio V6 (Gen 2),
  • Renault Clio CUP (Gen 2),
  • Renault Clio Super 1600 (Gen 2),
  • Renault Clio RS R3 (Gen 3),
  • RS CUP (Gen 3),
  • Renault Clio RS R3T (Gen 4),
  • Renault Clio RS 16 (Gen 4),
  • RS 18 (Gen 4),
  • and RS R3T (Gen 4).

The range of competitors of the Clio is very wide. They include the Peugeot 208, the Opel Corsa, the Citroen C3, the Toyota Yaris, and the Ford Fiesta among many others. There have been five generations of the Renault Clio, although each generation has undergone several redesigns. The current generation is produced on the CMF-B platform, shared with the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and Nissan Note.

Down below you will see a list with all Renault Clio models that have been produced. They are classified by model identifier, year and type of bodywork. Above each list, we show you a series of pictures so that you can have a visual reference for each model. In some cases, both the original and its updated design are displayed to help you identify them with ease.

In this guide you will find all Renault Clio models.

■ Timing Chain (Cadena de Distribución / Cadena de Tiempo)
■ Gear Driven (Distribución por Engranajes)
100% Electric, No Timing (Sin Distribución)
