About MAZDA XEDOS 6
The Mazda Xedos 6 is a segment D executive car produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda. In Japan and Australia, it was marketed as the Eunos 500, while in Europe it was sold under the name Mazda Xedos 6. It was not offered in North America, where the larger Mazda Millenia was marketed.
The first and only generation of the Mazda Xedos 6 was unveiled at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show and went into production in January 1992. It was based on Mazda's CA platform, shared with the Mazda Capella. Initially, it was offered with a 2.0-liter V6 engine producing 144 hp and also with a 1.6-liter inline-four engine with 114 hp. In 1994, the engines were updated to comply with Euro 1 regulations, losing some power, and in 1996 they were modified again to adapt to Euro 2.
The Xedos 6 was praised for its exterior design, which some compared to a small Jaguar, but its interior was criticized for being too sober. In Japan and Australia, different engine options were offered, with a 1.8-liter V6 as an entry-level option and a more powerful version of the 2.0 V6 that produced 160 hp. The Xedos 6 platform was also used in a Mazda 323F built for the FIA World Touring Car Championship in 1994.
The main rivals of the Mazda Xedos 6 in the compact executive car segment were the Honda Accord, the Toyota Carina, the Nissan Bluebird, the Opel Vectra, and the Volkswagen Passat, among many others.
