Hyundai Accent — TIMING CHAIN OR BELT?

MODEL LIST - (UPDATED 2023)

| Home / Hyundai / List of Hyundai Accent Models without Timing Belt

The Hyundai Accent is a subcompact car (B-segment in Europe) manufactured by the South Korean marque Hyundai. It has been marketed since 1994. This vehicle is known by several names, although Accent is the most widespread nomenclature, which refers to the acronym “Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology“.

The first generation of the Accent (also known as Hyundai Excel, Hyundai Pony in France or Dodge Brisa in Venezuela) was launched in 1994 as a replacement for the international Hyundai Excel. It was sold with hatchback (in 3 and 5-door versions) and sedan body styles, structures that would be maintained in each and every one of the 5 generations that exist at the moment. The first generation did not have diesel variants.

The second generation Accent (also sold as Verna, Avega or Super Pony) arrived in 1999. It had larger dimensions and received new engines. It also received diesel engines.

In 2005 the third generation was launched. This model was even wider, and became a model in the United States. The Accent GT, a version with a sportier suspension, was also marketed. In North America, this model became a success, second only to the Toyota Yaris and Chevrolet Aveo. In Europe, the Korean brand’s plans were different, so this model was sold temporarily until the arrival of the Hyundai i30 and Hyundai Elantra.

The fourth generation Hyundai Accent was sold worldwide except in Europe. It went on sale in 2010. This model was built on the Hyundai-Kia PB platform, just like the Hyundai i20. In Russia it was sold as Hyundai Solaris and in Mexico as Dodge Attitude.

The fifth and current generation of this vehicle is produced on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform. This version grew again in size and performance, although Hyundai considers the SUV segment to be more profitable. Hence, this car will not be sold in the United States with its Hatchback body. In mid-2022, Hyundai announced that this car would be discontinued in 2023.
