About OPEL FRONTERA
The Opel Frontera is a D-segment off-road vehicle produced by the German brand Opel. It is not a vehicle produced by General Motors, but rather by Isuzu. The Americans had signed an agreement with the Japanese firm in 1971 that included the possibility of manufacturing vehicles for GM in exchange for promoting the Isuzu brand.
The model on which the Opel Frontera is actually based is called the Isuzu Mu or Isuzu Rodeo. General Motors also marketed it as the Opel Frontera in Europe and the Vauxhall Frontera in the United Kingdom. In Australia, it arrived as the Holden Frontera. And in countries like Egypt, it was distributed as the Chevrolet Frontera. In addition to these names, it was also sold as an Isuzu in many countries, using various sub-names (Isuzu Frontier, Isuzu Vega, Isuzu Cameo, Isuzu Amigo...). Finally, this vehicle is the same as the Honda Passport, since Isuzu also had other agreements with Honda at that time.
The Opel Frontera had 2 generations. It was sold in short (3-door) and long (5-door) versions. It had a front-engine layout and rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive (4x4). There was also a 3-door convertible body style called the Opel Frontera Sport.
The Opel Frontera ceased production in 2007. Its successor was the Opel Antara, although the latter does not have off-road capabilities as capable as those of the Frontera. Today, the Opel Frontera remains a widely used car in mountain villages, a testament to the great reliability and quality of this vehicle.
