About OPEL MERIVA
The Opel Meriva is a subcompact MPV or minivan from B-segment by the German brand Opel. It was produced by General Motors between 2003 and 2007. In the United Kingdom, it was marketed as the Vauxhall Meriva. In South America, a variant called the Chevrolet Meriva was also sold.
There are 2 generations of the Opel / Vauxhall Meriva. Both were built on the Opel Corsa platform, featuring a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.
The Meriva A, or first-generation Meriva, was based on the Opel Corsa C. It aimed to be a more compact and affordable alternative to the Opel Zafira. It was a highly modular vehicle, with 5 seats, of which the 3 rear ones could be slid forward, backward, or simply removed to increase interior space.
The Meriva B, the second generation, hit the market in 2010 and was slightly larger than its predecessor. It borrowed some elements from the Opel Zafira Tourer while its interior recalled the Opel Insignia and the Opel Astra. Finally, General Motors decided not to continue the model in mid-2017. Its successor would be the Opel Crossland X, an SUV based on PSA's PF1 platform, shared with the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Peugeot 2008. Without a doubt, an omen of what would eventually happen to the company, as barely a couple of years later, PSA would take control of Vauxhall / Opel.
Among the alternatives to the Opel Meriva are the Citroën C3 Picasso, the Fiat 500L, the Ford B-Max, the Honda Jazz, the Nissan Note, the Renault Modus, and the Skoda Roomster, among others.
