OPEL ADAM: timing chain or timing belt information

About OPEL ADAM

The Opel Adam is an A-segment urban subcompact or city car produced by the German manufacturer Opel. Its name is a nod to the brand's founder, Adam Opel. The car was sold from 2013 as the Opel Adam and as the Vauxhall Adam in the United Kingdom. The end of the Opel Adam arrived in 2019, when General Motors ended up selling Opel to PSA and the French decided to cut back on the German brand's product portfolio, putting an end to this small city car.

The Adam is a hatchback based on General Motors' SCCS platform, also known as the Small Platform or 199. This base is itself a shortened version of the Corsa D platform.

Regarding its mechanics, the Adam has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. It featured only 3- and 4-cylinder inline gasoline engines, with naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants available.

On the other hand, the level of customization of the Opel Adam was very interesting. It was possible to customize roof colors, interiors, and multiple details, creating a truly unique car, as approximately 61,000 different combinations were possible for the exterior and 82,000 for the interior (Note: original text mentions exterior twice, but keeping meaning). It was also awarded the Red Dot design award in 2013.

The most powerful versions of the Adam (Opel Adam S) were a major draw for car enthusiasts who wanted a more affordable Abarth, since the power-to-weight ratio of this little car was very similar. There was also an R2 rally variant (Opel Adam R2), introduced for the Adam Cup and the European Rally Championship. As for the more standard versions, they competed with well-known vehicles in their segment, such as the Fiat 500, Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 108, Volkswagen Up!, and Smart Fortwo, among many others.
