About OPEL MONTEREY
The Opel Monterey is an E-segment off-road SUV from the German manufacturer Opel. It is a model derived from the Japanese Isuzu Trooper, from which it borrows all of its mechanical components. The strategy with the Monterey was identical to that of its younger brother, the Opel Frontera, which was also a version of an Isuzu off-roader. In total, two generations of the Opel Monterey were manufactured between 1992 and 1999.
The first generation of the Opel Monterey was built on Isuzu's UBS platform between 1992 and 1996. It was available with a 3-door body style (called RS) or a 5-door body style. It came with a 3.2-liter V6 gasoline engine with 177 hp of maximum power, as well as a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 115 hp. The transmission could be a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The vehicle was manufactured
The second generation of the Monterey appeared in 1996 and remained in production until 1999, also using Isuzu's UBS platform. It received a mild aesthetic update in 1996, featuring a new front grille and lights. In 1998, a more thorough redesign was carried out, particularly at the front end. The diesel engine increased its power output to 125 hp.
The Opel Monterey stood out in its era for its good off-road capabilities thanks to its approach and departure angles, as well as its generous ground clearance. These features allowed it to easily navigate demanding terrain. On the other hand, its cabin was spacious and its cargo capacity generous. Among its most direct rivals were models such as the Land Rover Discovery, the Mercedes M-Class, or the BMW X5. In any case, the Monterey competed against them with a more affordable price while maintaining its off-road capability.
