About CITROEN XSARA PICASSO
The Citroën Xsara Picasso is a compact MPV or minivan in C-segment from the French manufacturer PSA (now Stellantis). It went on sale in 1999 and became one of Citroën's biggest successes, replicating the strategy that Renault had done 3 years earlier with the Scénic. However, this model is based on the Xanae, a concept car that the brand showed to the world in 1994 and which already had some of the lines that would eventually make it to production.
This minivan is based on the platform of the Citroën Xsara, which in turn was derived from the Citroën ZX and the Peugeot 306. All versions of the Citroën Xsara Picasso featured PSA inline 4-cylinder engines, with displacements ranging between 1.6 and 2 liters. In all of them, the engine was front-mounted and transversely placed. Its large space, modular seats, and price made this vehicle a bestseller, although it had to share the market with other vehicles such as the Renault Scénic, the Opel Zafira, or the Fiat Multipla.
紆The Citroën Xsara Picasso was sold in Europe until 2011, but its commercialization extended until 2013 in markets such as Latin America and Egypt. Its replacement would be the Citroën C4 Picasso. However, the Picasso nameplate would gain great prominence at Citroën starting with this model, giving rise to other minivans such as the Citroën C3 Picasso. There is only one generation of this vehicle, although it had several restylings during its commercialization and also had a major engine update in 2004, where the HDI versions were equipped with variable geometry turbochargers.
