CITROEN C2: timing chain or timing belt information

About CITROEN C2

The Citroën C2 is a microcar or compact urban car halfway between segments A and B by the French manufacturer PSA (Stellantis). It appeared in mid-2003 as a replacement for the Citroën Saxo and its production would eventually cease in 2011 to make way for the Citroën DS3.

As with many other manufacturers, the C2 is another one of those vehicles that is difficult to classify into a specific segment. Officially, PSA created the C2 to replace the Saxo (segment B), but being a shorter vehicle, many consider it the spiritual successor to the Citroën AX. This is because during the first decade of the century, segment A grew noticeably in size, something that also happened with the Ford Ka, the Renault Twingo, or even within PSA itself, as the Peugeot 106 would end up replacing the Peugeot 205 as well in a very similar move to this.

The Citroën C2 was marketed for a single generation, and was produced in two body styles: 3-door hatchback and commercial (enterprise). It had a minor mid-cycle facelift. The vehicle was sold in gasoline and diesel versions. Production lasted barely 6 years, with the Van variant extending the model's life a bit longer. Among its trivia, there was a version of the C2 homologated for rallying in the Super 1600 category, called the Citroën C2 S1600, which replaced the Saxo Kit Car used in that competition since 1997. This version of the C2 would end up winning the Junior World Rally Championship in 2005 and 2008.
