About CITROEN C6

The Citroen C6 is an E-segment executive car from the French manufacturer PSA (Stellantis). It was launched on the market at the end of 2005 as the reference sedan of the French brand. Previously, the vehicle had been presented as a concept at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show under the name Citroën C6 Lignage. The C6 arrived as a replacement for the former Citroën XM, which had ceased production in 2000. PSA's intention was to launch it right in that year, but production ended up being delayed by 5 years. The car would eventually cease production in mid-2012 with very modest sales.

Both the Citroën C6 and the C5 share a platform, the PSA PF3, a base that they also have in common with the Peugeot 407 and the first-generation 508. It was sold exclusively in a fastback body style with transverse front-engine layouts. However, there were models with front-wheel drive and also with all-wheel drive. Almost all Citroën C6s were powered by a V6 engine, both in their HDI versions and in their single 3-liter gasoline engine option. However, it was also marketed as standard with a four-in-line 2.2 HDI engine derived from the C5.

Although in Europe we consider that there is only one generation of this car, in China, the model continued to be sold as a completely different second-generation C6 based on the PSA EMP2 platform, sharing its components and part of its design with the second-generation Peugeot 508. The C6 aimed to compete with large German vehicles like the Audi A6, the BMW 5 Series, or the Chrysler 300C. However, just as happened with the Peugeot 607, the flagship sedans of the French did not achieve their goal. Ultimately, PSA would end up tackling this segment years later with the DS 9, that is, with its premium brand.
