About PEUGEOT 607
The Peugeot 607 is an executive car (segment E) manufactured by the French maker PSA (currently Stellantis). It was produced between 1999 and 2010, serving as the top-of-the-range vehicle for the Peugeot brand during that period.
Following the failure of its predecessor, the Peugeot 605, PSA decided to reuse the latter's base and chassis to create this new model. This is why the 607 does not share a platform with the Citroën C6. As a proper flagship sedan, Peugeot decided to pour all its innovation into this model. This made the 607 the world's first production diesel car to integrate a particulate filter (FAP).
When developing the 607, Peugeot did everything possible to make the public forget the failure of the Peugeot 605. It was not named the Peugeot 606 for that very reason, to make a clean break with the past. However, the first journalists who tested the car raised objections, forcing the French brand to make corrections even before commercializing the vehicle. The quality of the finishes and the overall design of the sedan were very satisfactory, far surpassing its predecessor. Nevertheless, Peugeot initially offered the vehicle with a lineup of underpowered engines, which once again dragged down its sales.
Phase II of the 607 arrived in 2004 with a twin-turbo V6 HDi engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a particulate filter maintenance-free for 200,000 kilometers. The brand corrected the power deficit with this 2.7-liter diesel block delivering 200 hp. Regarding the gasoline variant, the legendary 3-liter PSA-Renault V6 with an output of 211 hp continued to be used. Despite this, production of the 607 stopped in 2010, and no direct successor was created in this line. Its space would be filled by the Peugeot 508, which belongs to a lower segment but features a slightly longer wheelbase to sit halfway between the two segments.
