About Peugeot 205
The Peugeot 205 is a B-segment supermini car produced by the French manufacturer PSA (now known as Stellantis). It went on sale in 1983 and was at the time the best-selling Peugeot in history. Production ended in 1998 with the release of the Peugeot 206, which curiously surpassed the sales record of the little 205. Alongside this, the natural successor to the 205 was actually the Peugeot 106, as Peugeot wanted to progressively replace the 205 with another affordable entry-level vehicle with similar dimensions.
The Peugeot 205 is one of the most emblematic models of the French brand. It mainly had two phases and various body styles (hatchback, convertible, and van). Throughout its long life, it was sold in many versions, both gasoline, with PSA-Renault X engines (base 205, GL, GR, SR, and GT) and diesel with XU engines (205 GLD, GRD, and SRD).
As for sporty versions, there was the Peugeot 205 GTI, with a 1.6-liter engine producing 105 hp. On the other hand, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 with 200 hp was also commercialized, of which enough units were produced to homologate the car for Group B rallying. Other sporty models included the Peugeot 205 XS, the 205 GT, and the 205 Rallye.
Furthermore, throughout its career, the Peugeot 205 underwent a multitude of changes that allowed the French firm to continue selling the vehicle. Interiors were redesigned, engines were replaced with more modern versions, and improvements such as the catalytic converter were included to homologate the car in compliance with new pollution regulations.
